JetBlue Airlines has announced it will begin offering direct flights from New York to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Starting on October 9, travelers will have the option to fly directly twice a week, with flights available on Wednesdays and Sundays.
JetBlue is one of several major airlines increasing direct flight services to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
In a radio interview on Monday, Minister of Finance, Honorable Camillo Gonsalves, explained that the rise in direct flights is linked to the growing availability of accommodations in the country, as well as the airlines’ confidence in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as an emerging tourism hotspot.
American Airlines is set to introduce a new direct flight from New York’s JFK Airport to St. Vincent, beginning in December 2024. The weekly flight will operate on Saturdays.
As of December, travelers will have three weekly direct flight options: Wednesdays and Sundays with JetBlue, and Saturdays with American Airlines. Caribbean Airlines also continues to provide two direct flights each week.
In addition, American Airlines will launch another weekly flight from Charlotte, North Carolina, also starting in December. This move, according to Finance Minister Hon. Camillo Gonsalves, reflects the airline’s confidence in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) as a premier tourism destination, as the decision to operate out of Charlotte is not driven by a large local diaspora.
“The Charlotte, North Carolina flight is an expression of confidence in our ability to attract a plane full of tourists because we don’t have a large Vincentian community there,” Gonsalves explained.
Furthermore, the Minister shared that discussions are underway with Air Canada to increase flights to SVG.
