Avelo Airlines Launches Inaugural Flight to Jamaica from Connecticut

Avelo Airlines has chosen Jamaica as its first international destination, marking a milestone for the island’s aviation and tourism industry. On Saturday, November 16, Jamaica proudly welcomed Avelo’s inaugural international flight, which carried over 150 passengers. The flight departed from Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut, and arrived at Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay.

Avelo Airlines has launched its first international Caribbean route, connecting Hartford, Connecticut, to Montego Bay, Jamaica, with twice-weekly flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This route highlights Jamaica’s appeal as a premier tourism destination while strengthening ties with one of the largest Jamaican diaspora communities in the U.S.

The Honourable Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, emphasized the strategic importance of this service:

“As our number one source market, the U.S. remains a critical pillar in our growth strategy. This new flight will make it easier for visitors from New England to reach Jamaica, boosting tourism, creating jobs, and driving economic growth.”

Director of Tourism Donovan White echoed these sentiments, noting that the new route not only fosters stronger diaspora connections but also offers New England leisure travellers seamless access to Jamaica’s vibrant culture, world-class attractions, and warm hospitality.

Avelo Airlines’ Head of Airports, Giselle Cortes, celebrated the milestone:

“Montego Bay becoming our first international destination is a proud moment for Avelo. Our motto, ‘one crew,’ aligns with Jamaica’s ‘one love,’ making this partnership truly special.”

With fares starting at $178 one-way, the service enhances accessibility for a wider audience and is expected to drive increased arrivals from the U.S. Northeast. The inaugural flight ceremony at Sangster International Airport featured traditional Jamaican cultural performances, welcoming over 150 passengers and setting the tone for a memorable experience.

This partnership underscores Jamaica’s robust tourism strategy and the confidence airlines continue to place in its tourism offerings.
